A stitch in time: The Gay issue

Oscar Wilde talked of there being two tragedies in life; “The one tragedy being not getting what you desire, and the other, getting it”. The world we must live in these days offers us a lot that we are happy with. And science, it seems, has made a lot possible for us. Examples should be “no longer do we need to be scared of Syphilis. The ailment which so bothered a man as gallant as Napoleon II.  We understand its genesis, and we can, therefore, go a long way to prevent it, or treat it successfully, should we contract it.” Penicillin would take care of that, and not Sarvasan, like in Napoleon’s era.
Should we in utero (in our mother’s womb) be found with it, or born with grotesque abnormalities, that should make life thereafter unpleasant, we possess, as of now, the means  to handle, in such a way, that the situation would be regularised for both mother and child, for the benefit of the family thereafter. Cancers that formerly killed inexcusably, could be cured lately, as if they were just “lusoria  naturalis”, or in case your school had shut all doors to Latin, teachers, call it a way for nature to play. Life, as such, is “finer for us humans these days, than we once knew it.”
But, something else has changed in a way that doesn’t suit many societal norms and institutions – religious and non-religious. The issue of sexology: The Bible teaches that God initially created man “alone!” And his name was Adam, Arabic, or, Adamu. The Bible teaches that the “All-Wise-God” desired and commanded that Adam get a companion. She was to be female (not the same as Adam), with emphasis! Eve or (Eva) was her name.  At this stage, the Universal Creator, (God Almighty) had thought of it, and had come to the conclusion that it would be good to leave it that way. Eva was, therefore, Adam’s wife (and his sexual partner).
In effect, the essence of “sex” had occurred to Him, the Supreme Creator, as early as the beginning.  Eve, was the name, and her chromosomal constellation had it installed to be (XX), because, He had already given Adam XY. The Bible, or the Quran story, is unfortunately, not recognised by millions, who are called, or whom we call, or who call themselves, Atheists. The Agnostics don’t have it any easier either. Neither do they make it any easierfor those who BELIEVE!
Even though Sodom and Gomorra are talked of in the Holy books of the three religions – the Judaic Holy Book, the Christian Bible, and the Quran – as having existed in times called the Old Testament.  Homosexualism and the controversy of Sexology had been very much thought of, but not much talked about until towards the end of the 19th Century and the first half of the 20th Century – in Paris first, and then Berlin, concurrent with the rise of Nazism (whereby Hitler was indescribably intolerant to “homosexualism”). He would order any homosexual, reportedly, at times on mere suspicion, to instantly be executed by “shooting!” It is strange that Judaism, Islam and Catholicism had all dominated Europe until the 19th Century, yet not much attempt was made to give it a scientific “looking-at”.
It took men of science and religion so much time to conceptualise that what went on adversely in “living creation”, animals, and plants, as male and female, did not spare the “homo sapiens!” Hermaphroditism is a phenomenon which allows the belief and proof that in the same organism, both male and female reproductive apparatuses may exist, and hence processes could exist (i.e. God’s creation), allowing procreation, which otherwise, occurs in two separate individuals – male and female.
Simply put, an animal or plant endowed by nature or God Almighty to extend reproductive processes to the exterior (i.e. meet a female, or male), could strangely enough, you might say, direct the process inwardly, sue generis, and achieve the same end-result, namely, reproduce, all within the same organism. The realism is obtained in having to accept scientifically that in human males and females the anlage is provided for androgens and estrogens (even different sex organs) to be produced. The overproduction of one type of hormone in the wrong phenotype could create “the problems”. An example would be a male, who would seek sexual contacts with other males only, or in the female, sexual contacts are sought, or preferred with females only.
Recent imaging facilities (SPECT, MRI), have lately made it possible to study the size of the neuro-pituitary – hypothalamic- frontal brain, ‘substantiating what might be observed physiologically.’ Studies made in the USA and Russia in the early part of the 20th Century have thrown light on the genesis of “sexual behavioral patterns”, which society has TROUBLE ACCEPTING.
What to do with a “gay-individual”, or  “a homosexual individual”, in natura, a Hermaphrodite, in a society which has grown to accept as normal, only men who date females,  and females who date only men”, not a mixture? At a discussion in a class filled with male medical students in a Middle-East setup, none was able to answer the question: What to do with an Albino, or an individual, born with “Sunspots”, into a society where most people are not that way different?
The discussion was thought to have been made simpler, when a contribution was made – these individuals were rare, or non-existent in the past. It is known in some parts of the Middle East and Africa that such offspring were not “allowed to leave the birth place.” The understanding of the clause seems to be the crux of the issue. But, homosexuals cannot be identified at birth.
In an intricately “webbed” world society that nations must now live coherently in, it is increasingly getting difficult to subject a “a mass-murderer” to medical screening, -to be seen by a Psychiatrist- and when found to be unstable (biologically handicapped), not able to decide between right and wrong, moral and immoral, free him/her from getting the ultimate sentence, or under some circumstances, keep such an individual safe in a penitentiary forever.
Anybody would be jumped upon by the masses, if a homosexual/murderer, e.g. the alleged homosexual murderer Cunanay (he murdered his lover, the Italian Designer Versace in the late 20th Century, apparently out of jealousy). Had he not committed suicide just before he would have been arrested by the FBI, the Supreme Court in America would have had a “dirty case” hanging around the judges’ necks, God knows till when.
The medical/genetic assessment might have taken decades, and it would have been science, and not emotions, or even “some morals”, that might have been important. You need not make a mile longer, and you would dare a marriage between two men, or two women, oftentimes, between celebrities in sports, or politics.
Some ordained priests would see nothing wrong in officiating the same day, a marriage between two men, and another between two ladies, and finally, a third between a man and a woman. In Africa, an example of a state that has allowed “gay-marriages” is South Africa. In our pretty Republic of Ghana, neither the clergy, nor the state would want to hear of any gay relationship, let alone, sniff it. What is more, there is the strong political, social, as well as cultural will, to “stamp-out” completely, anything to do with gays.  They are, however, God’s creation, and there is no contribution from them to be in the sexual categorization in which they may find themselves. In Europe, after the renaissance, monarchs were found to have preferred leading homosexual lives, after the state had spent fortunes to organise their royal weddings.
Today, development of human rights, especially, where institutions like “Amnesty International” (originated in England) have come to stay, one would see celebrities in sports and science, preferring to “marry gay”, but otherwise conform to societal norms of paying taxes, giving to charity, and being kind to one another, in other words, live as noble men and women. Yet, a problem is when the same individual is “normal”, as judged by society, because, he has been married with multiple children, but he is also “homosexual.” [Oscar Wilde was].
What should be, and what shouldn’t be a human being’s rights? Let the international lawyers be busy with the questions. So, you get into a situation, where there mounts some pressure from afar, and it’s about “GAY RIGHTS.” Are these rights internationally enforceable?  Is South Africa right or wrong for adopting gay rights? Our Republic faces an unknown number of citizens with a God-made problem. The solution…? A district in the capital city of the Republic would like to evict all gay individuals outside the law. Willy-nilly, it is a problem, which all nations of the world better engage and find solutions to. The issue crisscrosses the thinking of the “Albert Einsteins” and the “Isaac Newtons” among us, or not even that far!

So what do you hope to achieve with this paper ? We have our identity as Ghanaians and forever, we shall resist gays. There’s nothing like ‘born a gay’ It is just an infectious immoral act , like pox that destroys the moral fabric of society.
