600-Capacity Dormitory For OWASS

A 600-capacity two-storey dormitory block has been commissioned for the Opoku Ware Senior High School (OWASS) in Kumasi by the President, Mr. John Dramani Mahama.

The project was funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund).

Commissioning the project last Wednesday, the President hoped it would help improve upon the intake of students in the school.

He announced that the government had the intention to construct about 200 more senior high schools to enable about 400,000 students get access to universal basic education.

He said under the programme, the government would see to the establishment of computer and science laboratories and residential and office accommodation for teachers.

President Mahama also announced that investment would be made in tertiary education by establishing 10 more Colleges of Education to upgrade the skills of teachers towards promoting quality education.

Mr. F. M. Oppong-Mensah, Headmaster of OWASS, thanked the government for the support through the GETFund for the project.

He mentioned the Kumasi Mayor, Mr. Samuel Sarpong, for his personal involvement to ensure the completion of the project on schedule.
