3 IN POLICE CUSTODY …over stolen used clothing

Three people have been arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command for diverting forty-feet container packed with used clothing, bags, toys and belt, belonging to one businessman in Accra. They are currently in police custody.

Briefing the press over the weekend, the Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP Patrick Eden Timbilla pointed out that on September 3, 2012, at about 6:00am, the complainant, who is a businessman, cleared forty-feet container stuffed with used clothing, bags, toys and belt from the Tema Port, through his agent, Barfi.

According to him, Barfi engaged the services of one Musah Mustapha, who was the driver in charge of DAF 95 Articulator Truck, with registration number AS 3441 Z to Kantamanto in Accra. The driver ended up diverting the goods to unknown destination.

On September 12, 2012, at about 3:00pm, and based on police intelligence, some of the goods were located at the store of Seth Kwarteng, who also deals in used clothing at Kantamanto. When questioned by the police, Seth denied knowledge of the theft and mentioned one Abu as the person who brought the goods to his store for sale.

According to him, police intelligence disclosed that the suspects, Seth Kwarteng and Abu, now at large, took the goods to a warehouse with House number (H/N) 110 at Gbawe C.P. last stop, and were bailing them.

Upon inspection at the ware house, the police detected a lot of bales of used clothing with tags ‘Akomapa’ and assorted used clothing yet to be baled.
