Fuseini Sbaabe, has cut the sod for the commencement of construction of a six-unit classroom block for the Agavedzi community in the district.
The new facility, which comes with a Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit (KVIP), would be funded by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) at a cost of GH¢149,000, and is expected to be completed within a period of six months.
The Agavedzi Primary School block, which was constructed some years ago, leaves much to be desired.
Addressing a mini durbar prior to the ceremony, the DCE explained that the construction of the block was in fulfillment of a promise made when he visited the area some few months after he was sworn into office.
Mr. Sbaabe, said he was touched by the plight of the people, particularly, the deplorable state of the makeshift school block, which had half of the roof ripped office, with school children fighting over tables and chairs to sit on during class hours.
The Fanteakwa DCE mentioned that education was the bedrock of any sound economic country, therefore, in order for Ghana to develop a strong economic position, there was the need to provide the necessary environment for effective and efficient teaching and learning.
He also promised the people of the readiness of his office to extend the School Feeding Programme to the area, after the completion of the new facility.
Touching on the need for all and sundry to support the government towards the elimination of school under trees, and improve on quality teaching and learning, Mr. Abass appealed to parents in the area not to shirk their parental roles.
According to him, in order to achieve that feat, parents have to work hand-in-hand with the government, since the latter cannot do everything by itself.
He also charged school children in the area to take advantage of the yet to be created new environment to study very hard.
The Headmaster of the school, Mr. Solomon Ahiamadi, on behalf of the student body and entire community, thanked the government, especially the DCE, for his level of commitment to meeting the social needs of the people.
He, however, called on the DCE to also provide some basic teaching and learning materials to the school after completion of the classroom block, since most of the children and teachers hardly have text and exercise books.
Presents out-board motor to community
Plans are far advanced by the Fanteakwa District Assembly to improve the living standard of the people of Dedeso-Narh Panya, a farming community within the district, through the provision of basic social amenities.
The area, which shares a boundary northward with the Kwahu North District, could be described as the “poorest of communities” in the Fanteakwa District, and that there was an urgent need to raise the living standard of the people to another level.
Residents of the area feel the lack of development, particularly, during market days, as they have to travel by water (River Afram) with canoes to nearby communities to market their produce.
For instance, there is only one vehicle plying the only bad road linking the area to Begoro, the capital of the district, during market days.
One somehow has to find his or her way to the community if he or she misses the only taxi cab which takes three in the front seat, and five at the back, and in some instances carry extra passengers of its roof.
In order to arrest such unbearable conditions, the DCE, Mr. Abass Fuseini Sbaabe, last Wednesday, presented an out-board motor to the community to enhance transportation.
Mr. Sbaabe further outlined plans by the government to extend and provide basic social amenities to the community.
He mentioned the construction of a market, extension of electricity, and rehabilitation of several road networks in the area, in order to enhance transportation.
