19-Year Old Herbalist Remanded For Defilement

A Circuit Court in Cape Coast presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai- Otu has remanded a 19- year old herbalist for defiling a 17-year old student.

The accused, Abas Abdul Karim popularly known as Mallam who pleaded not guilty would be re-arraigned before the court on February 13, 2013.

Chief Inspector Francise Ockom prosecuting told the court that both the victim and the accused are residents of Putubiew, a town near Cape Coast.

He said somewhere in December 2012 the victim was chatting with her friend who is the brother to the accused in front of the accused house.

Chief Inspector Ockom stressed that Karim who was passing by took that advantage and called the girl into his room and pointed a shot gun on her. He then asked the girl to choose between having sexual intercourse with him or get killed.

He said the girl who was frightened and shivering obliged to have sexual intercourse with the accused as he demanded.

Chief Inspector Ockom also stated that after the act Karim warned the victim not to disclose it to anyone or else he would make her either blind or cripple

He said on 28/01/13 the victim who had been huntered by the act could no longer keep the secret and therefore disclosed to her uncle the ordeal she went through in the hands of Karim.

Chief Inspector Ockom said a report was then made to the police and a medical form was issued to the girl for treatment at the hospital which was confirmed by doctors that the girl has been defiled.

Karim was then arrested by the police but in his caution statement the accused claimed the girl was her former girlfriend and that they have had sexual intercourse on several occasions.
