Iconic midfielder Michael Essien returns to his roots, Awutu Breku, this morning, to put in shape his dream of creating opportunities, hope, and inspiration for the underprivileged in his hometown.
Today’s visit to Awutu Breku forms part of the Michael Essien Foundation (MEF), founded by Essien, and is in line with the Foundation’s five-year plan to provide projects in the Senya Breku district.
This year, the event will highlight the following: A Book Launch (children’s reading books by Michael); Commissioning of one bore hole and a ten-seater public toilet, and a Sports Day for children in the Senya Breku District. The Sports Day will attract about 5,000 children, with 400 participating in three different areas of sports – football; volleyball and netball.
The MEF is to promote basic community amenities and opportunities for various groups, through different projects.
